Hyundai Mobis will showcase diverse future car technologies such as autonomous driving and eco-friendly vehicles at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next year, the company said Thursday.
As the world's top electronics fair is increasingly becoming the motor show of the future with top global carmakers and car component manufacturers participating, the Hyundai Motor Group vehicle technology affiliate also plans to offer visitors a glimpse into the future of the car industry.
"We will present a whole new experience that our technologies will allow potential customers to experience at the CES next year," Hyundai Mobis' R&D unit Executive Vice President Yang Seung-wook said.
"We will promote our differentiated technologies and boost our R&D capabilities to take the leadership in the future car market."
Hyundai Mobis will set up its booths at the expo and exhibit technologies including autonomous driving, biometrics and intelligent digital assistant, as well as the core electric vehicle-charging technology called "vehicle-to-grid" (V2G).
A large screen will project a video introducing fully autonomous cars, advanced car infotainment systems and the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) system that provides information such as location and traffic flow.
The company will also introduce its new technologies in a special experience zone, providing holography and augmented reality visual aids. In this zone, visitors can ride a concept car where they follow the introduction of a virtual digital assistant to learn how drivers and passengers will interact with smart cars.
In the eco-friendly car section, the company will exhibit an advanced electronics wheel it calls the "e-Corner" module, which is capable of acceleration, braking, steering and suspension.
The electronics wheel is designed for eco-friendly vehicles because it doesn't need an engine, hydraulic brake lines or drive shaft. For this reason, carmakers can design a vehicle in unorthodox ways using this module, according to Hyundai Mobis.
The e-Corner module's features are controlled by a self-driving car's main electronic system. A car can be built simply by connecting four e-Corner modules in a chassis and putting battery system and the central control unit.
In the second floor of the exhibition hall, Hyundai Mobis will set up business meeting rooms for potential customers.
In particular, the company will hold its first technology briefing session. On Jan. 10 on the second day of the show, it will invite the press and industry officials to introduce its autonomous driving, eco-friendly cars and infotainment component technologies. The next day, it will brief about the detailed progress of its R&D projects and product roadmaps.
