Online troll fined for defaming BTS

An online troll, who made insulting comments about K-pop group BTS, has been fined for defaming the stars.

Big Hit Entertainment, the group's agency, said Thursday that the person was recently been slapped with a 4 million won ($3,400) after being charged for three counts of defamation and contempt.

The rulings come after the agency filed complaints against the person with police In December 2019 and this March.

If the person continues to attack the members, Big Hit warned that it would seek damages for its financial loses. "There will be no settlement or leniency," it added.

The agency said it would closely monitor comments online and take necessary action against those who try to spread rumors about BTS.

"We ask you to continue to make use of our hotline to report any cases of abuse," it said.

BTS ― RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook ― became the first K-pop act to top Billboard's Hot 100 chart last month with its English-language single "Dynamite."
