North Korean leader Kim Jong Un crossed the border into South Korea for the first time on Friday (April 27), where he was greeted by the South's president, Moon Jae-in ahead of the two Koreas' first summit in more than a decade.

The two leaders smiled and shook hands after which Kim Jong Un gestured to Moon they cross over to NorthKorea briefly, which they did for a few steps, then returned to the South, holding hands.

Kim was handed a flower bouquet by a South Korean boy and girl, residents of a village situated in the demilitarised zone.

The pair were met on a red carpet by a South Korean honour guard in historical costumes and playing traditional music.

Kim and Moon then walked into the Peace House, venue of the summit, where Kim signed a guest visitor book, writing "New history starts now; age of peace, from the starting point of history". (Reuters)
