Singapore has declared two major regions as special zones from June 10 to 14, as preparations for the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un were ramped up.

The holiday island of Sentosa is one of the zoned region and houses the Capella Hotel, which will be the venue for the summit that is scheduled to start on the morning of June 12.

The Singapore government said police would make stricter checks of people and personal belongings and items such as public address systems and remotely piloted aircraft system would be prohibited in the area.

The other gazette area is a city central region, where the Singapore foreign ministry, the U.S. embassy and several hotels — including the Shangri-la Hotel where meetings may be held — are located. The area also borders the main shopping district of Orchard Road.

Over 3,000 journalists are expected to descend upon the 24-hour International Media Centre, located at the F1 Pit Building in the downtown area, next to the Singapore Flyer.

It will be the first meeting between a serving U.S. president and a North Korean leader and Trump said last week he expected an eventual "very positive result" with North Koreabut dampened expectations for a breakthrough in Singapore, saying it could take several meetings to reach an agreement.
