Samsung SDS unveiled its online logistics platform equipped with cutting-edge IT technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to target the global e-commerce logistics market, Wednesday.

The platform dubbed "Cello Square 3.0" is grafted with blockchain technology as well as AI in addition to the firm's knowhow on logistics operation, said Kim Jin-ha, senior vice president at the smart logistics business division of Samsung SDS, during a news conference held at the firm's campus in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province.

The IT services arm of the nation's top conglomerate said the platform automatically selects the optimal transportation measures and delivery firms, enabling sellers in the global e-commerce logistics market to reduce costs and delivery time.

The blockchain technology, embedded in the platform, will raise product reliability as the technology prevents forgery and alteration of places of origin of international cargo.

Purchasers can simply confirm information, such as exporting countries, companies and distribution records, by touching their mobile phones on the tag of near field communications (NFC) attached to the products.

The firm said the platform improves user convenience significantly, offering a mobile tracking service in which users can check orders and delivery situations in real time with their mobile phones.

The company plans to add a premium service using machine learning and data analytics, which will forecast sales volume and suggest measures to cut down distribution costs.

The firm said it signed a business agreement with the state-run Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK), also on Wednesday, to connect logistics information of the Cello Square 3.0 to the bank's export price payment system.

"We will offer the best service to sellers in the global e-commerce market through the Cello Square 3.0 embedded with state-of-the-art IT technologies and Samsung SDS's experience on global logistics operation," said Kim Hyung-tae, executive vice president at logistics business unit of Samsung SDS.
