An elementary school teacher killed himself in a classroom he managed, police said Tuesday.

The teacher, 45, was found dead in his classroom at an elementary school in Gurae, South Jeolla Province, at 12:22 p.m. Tuesday. He was taken to a nearby hospital but declared dead.

"His last class ended at 10:30 a.m. and his students moved to another classroom in the school library to attend a special program," an investigator said. "He was left alone in the classroom after students left."

The investigator said a memo on the teacher's laptop read: "Teaching job doesn't fit me. I've lived wearing clothes of others. I want to stop this. Feel sorry for my family."

Police reportedly found no signs of foul play. The teacher had no history of mental problems, they said.

The regional education office has sent counselors to the school to treat shocked students.
