Kahn, 45, uploaded a photo of BTS on Twitter on Thursday and wrote: "They all have plastic surgery. They are all wearing lipstick. This is what Crazy Rich Asians actually look like."

The director, whose Korean name is Ahn Jun-hee, then uploaded another Tweet saying, "Asian Americans: STOP FEMINIZING OUR MEN. ASIANS ARE MACHO TOO. Asians: YOU NO WEAR LIPSTIC? WHY?"

He once claimed in another post that he loved BTS, but then posted an article from Hong Kong's South China Morning Post with the headline, "South Korean men having plastic surgery to get 'pretty boy' looks and macho physiques of their K-pop and K-drama idols."

The story also featured a picture of global K-pop act SHINee.

Upset fans have accused Khan of spreading unsubstantiated rumors about BTS. Fans are also angry at the director for claiming Asians are not "masculine."

Khan debuted as a music video director in 1995, and as a film director in 2004 with the movie "Talk." He has collaborated with a myriad of Hollywood stars, including Taylor Swift and Maroon 5, for their music videos.
