A video of a customer throwing a bag of food in a part-time employee's face at a McDonald's in Yeonsinnae, northwestern Seoul, went viral Thursday, marking the second customer assault case at a McDonald's franchise in less than a month.
The incident occurred Nov. 17 and started with an argument between two middle-aged customers and a part-time staffer.
"The employee did not call my order number," one of the customers said.
However, the worker said, "I repeatedly called their order number but no one showed up."
One man shouted "Do you think I'm stupid?" and another man by his side threw a bag of food at the employee's face.
A witness posted the video Wednesday on the community website FM Korea with the title "The staff called the next order after the customer did not pick up his food and the customer started to argue over why he wasn't called."
In the video, the worker politely said he would place another order, but the customers demanded a refund and payment for their taxi, which they claimed was waiting outside the store. The police came to calm the situation, the video uploader mentioned.
"An argument can occur, but all that aside, is it normal to throw a bag at someone's face?" an online commenter wrote.
According to Seoul Eunpyeong Police, the worker did not want to press charges, but wanted an apology from the customer.
"We notified the worker he can press charges if necessary, but no report has been submitted on the case for over 15 days," a police official said.
This is the second case following a similar incident that occurred on Nov. 11, when a customer in his 40s threw his order at a 20-year-old employee at a McDonald's drive-thru in Ulsan.
