Kumho Tire said Thursday it has been chosen as the supplier of original equipment tires for the Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUVs.

According to the tiremaker, its Solus KL21 SUV tires is the factory set tires for the new G-Class, which has built its reputation as one of the most-trusted luxury off-roaders over the past 40 years and recently went through a full redesign for the first time since its debut in 1979.

Kumho Tire said it has been supplying the Solus KL21 SUV tires since May last year, but only announced it on Thursday due to confirmation issues with the German carmaker.

The Solus KL21 is highlighted by its balance, which aids fuel efficiency, and has durability and outstanding driving comfort at the same time. Its new high dispersible micro silica tread compound produces maximum grip on wet and dry roads, the company said.

Kumho Tire has been supplying tires for Mercedes-Benz since 2007, when it supplied a homologated version of its Solus KH15 MO tires for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Since then, it expanded the partnership to Mercedes vans including the Sprinter, the Viano and the Vito, as well as providing tires for the Smart mini car and trucks.

"The contract again shows our developed performances in manufacturing tires," Kumho Tire Europe President Song Jun-ro said. "With the fresh deal, we have set up a rich portfolio with Mercedes-Benz and plan to expand our cooperation further."
