An appellate court has sentenced a Chinese man to 23 years in prison for killing his Chinese colleague and injuring another after bickering turned into a bloody fight last year.

Seoul High Court made the ruling on Thursday, retaining the lower court's prison term. Judge Kim Hyung-doo said no new evidence or claims had been raised since the first ruling.

The man in his 40s, surnamed Jang, was charged with homicide in May 2018 after stabbing his Chinese colleague to death at a restaurant in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Derogatory terms the victim spoke to the offender sparked the incident.

Another colleague, surnamed Chun, was injured while trying to stop Jang.

According to court documents, the offender killed the victim with a knife he bought from a shop during the altercation.
