Only one in 10 senior university students awaiting commencement in February has landed a regular full-time job, a survey revealed on Monday, reaffirming the seriousness of youth unemployment.

Recruiting website Job Korea announced this after surveying 1,112 soon-to-be-college graduates across the country.

While another 10 percent said they had landed an intern or other temporary position, 79 percent said they were still unemployed.

These figures demonstrate the deteriorating job market for young adults.

In the 2016 survey, 16.9 percent were found to have landed regular full-time jobs and 22.2 percent were in temporary positions.

Among those who found regular jobs, business/economy majors took the biggest portion of 13.2 percent, followed by engineering (12.2 percent), arts or sports (10.2 percent) and language or humanities (9.4 percent).

While most of the unemployed were desperate to find a job, 15.9 percent of full-time job holders said they were seeking a better position at major conglomerates such as Samsung, Hyundai Motor or LG, and 11.2 percent at state-funded companies offering relatively strong job security.
