LG CNS has joined hands with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world's largest cloud computing service provider, to co-develop a service to help companies migrate their data to a cloud computing platform, the IT affiliate of LG Group said Sunday.

The firm said it had "strategic enablement collaboration" with AWS at its headquarters in the LG Science Park in western Seoul on Friday. With the agreement, the two firms will develop a cloud migration service.

The IT firm said it will especially introduce AWS's signature "50 in 50 migration program" that helps companies migrate 50 applications in 50 days. LG CNS will apply the data migration service to itself and other LG Group affiliates and then expand the service to local companies here. It also plans to use the service in overseas markets in Asia.

LG CNS CEO Kim Young-shub said the firm "will lead the local cloud computing business along with AWS by developing customer-friendly service."

Stating that thousands of companies are transforming their data to AWS to reduce costs and improve their operation performance, Ed Lenta, managing director of AWS in Asia-Pacific, also said "AWS will closely cooperate with LG CNS so that their customers can fully benefit from the cloud computing service."

LG CNS has partnered with AWS since 2017 to collaborate on expansion of the cloud computing business in the country. The firm won a contract from Korean Air worth 200 billion won ($178 million) in 2018 to transfer data and applications of the airline firm to AWS.

The firm recently developed a cloud service for financial firms along with AWS to offer cloud computing services specialized for the financial sector.
