A Korean, who joined eBay in 2002, has been promoted to head the global sales operations of the U.S. e-commerce company, officials said Monday.

Under the firm's latest worldwide organizational restructuring, Jay Lee who oversaw the foundation of eBay Korea in 2002 is tasked with managing the firm's sales operations in North and South America, Europe, Britain and the Asia-Pacific region. The senior vice president, who graduated from Harvard Business School, will also act as interim head of the Americas while a search is conducted for a new America leader who will report to Lee.

He has been with eBay since 2002 and has played an instrumental role in eBay's growth and success over the years.

Lee, who once worked as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group, has driven a relentless focus on the customer, guided growth in both regions established by eBay as a world leader in cross-border trade and market leading positions in key countries like Korea and Australia, the officials said.

"He successfully launched eBay Korea in 2002 and made it the largest ecommerce firm in the country," one company official said. "Lee then proved he was the right person to lead the firm's operations in Asia. After having managed eBay's operations in Europe from 2017 to 2018, he was recently given a more important mission to manage the worldwide sales operations."
