Workers living in or around Seoul spend an average 114.5 minutes commuting to and from work every day, a recent poll showed Thursday.

According to a survey of 1,301 workers by local job portals Job Korea and Albamon, the average daily commute times for those living in Seoul, Incheon or Gyeonggi Province were 100 minutes, 95.8 minutes and 134.2 minutes, respectively. It showed people living in Gyeonggi Province spend around 35 more minutes on the road every day than those based in Seoul.

Around 32 percent of the respondents from the Seoul and metropolitan area said their commute involved both buses and subways. Another 29.1 percent said they only use the subway while 19.6 percent said they rely on just buses and 10 percent, a private vehicle.

Outside the metropolitan area, commute time is halved with an average worker spending about an hour traveling to and from work every day. Unlike the capital, the biggest figure ― 32 percent ― said they commute by bus only while 27 percent said they commute by car.

Over half of all respondents said they listened to music during their commute, followed by 28.4 percent who use mobile messaging or social media apps and 28 percent catch extra sleep during the ride.
