The military recruitment agency has approved singer Seungri's application for a delay in his enlistment while he is being investigated for allegations related to criminal activities at several nightclubs in the Gangnam area including Burning Sun of which he was an executive in charge of PR.

The Military Manpower Administration (MMA) said Wednesday the decision was made at the requests of Seungri and the investigating authorities, March 18, based on a relevant military law that defines conditions for postponing the date of enlistment.

Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, was a member of popular K-pop boy band BIGBANG but he left the group as the controversy that started with Burning Sun has grown.

He has been accused of having collusive ties with police, procuring prostitutes for investors, illegal overseas gambling and other allegations including drug use.

He was supposed to enlist on March 25 but this has now been postponed for three months.

The MMA said it will make a new decision after the three months are up on whether to resume Seungri's enlistment process or delay it again, in line with the conscription law.

The agency will also seek to amend the law to prevent those involved in controversial activities from enlisting to "flee to the military."
