DJ Shaun, who had worked at the Seoul nightclub Burning Sun that is linked to a sex-video and drugs scandal involving celebrities, enlisted in the Army on Monday.

The musician from DCTOM Entertainment entered a military training camp and after five weeks will be assigned to an army base.

He told fans of his enlistment on
Instagram March 24. He said he will release songs during his service and "hoped his fans would remember him by the songs."

Shaun said he had planned to enlist six years ago but delayed it until now.

The enlistment has raised questions among fans about its timing because he is known to have worked at Burning Sun. The Gangnam nightclub is at the center of allegations involving drugs, sexual assault, sex videos and corrupt ties with police.

Seungri, a former member of K-pop boy band BIGBANG, was an executive at the club. He resigned amid the growing scandal over the sex-drug allegations.

He is now the subject of a police investigation over suspicions of offering prostitutes to his business investors in 2015, illegal drug use and sexual violence at the club.

He has been charged over a sex-video scandal that involved the secret filming over 10 women during sex and the distribution of the clips on a Kakao Talk chatroom in 2015, alongside singer Jung Joon-young, while other male celebrities were charged with having joined the chatroom.

Meanwhile, Shaun faced scrutiny last year over allegations he used a bulk-selling scheme to push his song "
Way back home" to No. 1 on online music charts ahead of idol bands. But the culture, sports and tourism ministry investigated the allegations and found no evidence to support them.

Shaun debuted in 2010 as a member of The Koxx. He released the single "She is" in March.
