A Seoul court has rejected a cabbie's bid to reverse Seoul City's decision to revoke his taxi driver's license for overcharging foreigners, Tuesday.
화요일 서울행정법원은 외국인에게 과도한 요금을 부과한 택시기사의 면허 취소 처분을 뒤집으려는 소송을 기각했다.
The driver charged the two 8,000 won ($7) after driving 2.43 kilometers to a shopping mall in Jung-gu, downtown Seoul. The correct fare was 4,200 won, according to the meter.
이 택시기사는 승객 두 명을 태우고 서울 시내 중구의 한 쇼핑몰로 2.43km를 운전한 뒤 8,000원을 받았다. 미터기에 따르면, 정확한 요금은 4,200원이었다.
The Seoul Administrative Court ruled against the taxi driver in a case he filed to overturn Seoul City Hall's decision to revoke his license.
서울행정법원은 이 택시기사가 서울시의 면허취소 결정을 뒤집기 위해 제기한 소송을 판결했다.
The court ruled: "The driver overcharged foreigners several times. This violates the law on the development of taxis."
법원은 "택시기사가 외국인에게 여러 차례 과도한 요금을 부과했다. 이는 택시발전법 위반"이라고 판단했다.
City monitors caught the driver. The Seoul Metropolitan Government fined him 400,000 won ($350) and canceled his license.
이 택시기사는 서울시 단속반에 의해 적발됐다. 서울시는 그에게 과태료 40만원을 부과하고 운전면허 종사 자격을 취소했다.
The court rejected the cabbie's case, saying his claims were inconsistent and lacked credibility.
법원은 택시기사의 주장이 일관성이 없고 신빙성이 부족하다며 그의 소송을 기각했다.
The driver was reportedly caught five times between 2017 and 2018 ripping off foreigners. Because of this, he was warned and his license suspended for 30 days.
이 기사는 2017년부터 2018년 사이 외국인에게 바가지요금을 청구하여 5번이나 붙잡힌 것으로 알려졌다. 이 때문에 그는 경고를 받았고 30일 동안 면허가 정지됐다.
