Renault Samsung's plant in Busan will halt operations for five days as the carmaker lost orders for 42,000 cars, due to output disruptions caused by workers' strikes, company officials said Friday.
르노삼성의 부산공장이 노조의 파업으로 생산 차질이 빚어지면서 42,000대의 주문량이 감소함에 따라 닷새 동안 가동을 중단 한다고 한 관계자가 금요일 밝혔다.
Industry officials said the union's stubborn stance in wage negotiation and continued strikes has undermined the company's competitiveness, which will negatively affect Renault Samsung's bid to win the manufacturing rights of Renault XM3 for global sales.
업계 관계자들은 임금협상에서 노조의 완강한 입장과 계속되는 파업이 회사의 경쟁력을 저하시키며, 르노삼성의 르노XM3의 글로벌 생산권 획득에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 것이라고 전했다.
According to the company, it will give employees "flexibility premium leave" for four days from April 29 to May 3. Since May 1 is Labor Day, the plant will stop for five days.
르노삼성은 5월 1일이 근로자의 날인 만큼 4월 29일부터 5월 3일까지 나흘간 직원들에게 '특별 휴가'를 주기로 했고, 공장은 5일간 문을 닫는다.
The company explained it decided to give them the leave because of declined orders for the Nissan Rogue from its headquarters of Renault― Nissan―Mitsubishi Alliance.
동사는 르노-닛산-미쓰비시 얼라이언스 본사로부터 닛산 로그에 대한 주문량이 줄어들었기 때문에, 직원들에게 휴가를 주기로 했다고 설명했다.
The Korean unit produced 102,000 Rogues for export last year, but the headquarters recently allocated 60,000 for this year.
르노삼성은 지난해 수출용 로그를 102,000대 생산했지만, 르노-닛산-미쓰비시 얼라이언스 본사는 올해 60,000대를 르노삼성에 배정했다.
Under a 2014 MOU with the headquarters, Renault Samsung was promised to produce an average of 80,000 Rogues annually for five years. Since then, the company has been producing more than 100,000 Rogues annually, accounting for nearly half of the company's total manufacturing volume.
2014년 본사와의 MOU에 따라 르노삼성은 5년간 연평균 80,000대의 로그를 생산하기로 약속받았다. 이후 연간 100,000대 이상의 로그를 생산해 전체 생산량의 절반 가까이를 르노삼성이 차지해왔다.
The MOU will expire in September this year, meaning Renault Samsung has to find another vehicle to keep its plant running.
이 MOU는 올해 9월에 만료되는데, 이는 르노삼성이 공장을 계속 가동하기 위해 다른 차량을 찾아야만 한다는 것을 의미한다.
A Renault Samsung official said 24,000 out of 42,000 went to a Nissan plant in Japan, due to "various reasons" including the conflict against its union.
르노삼성 관계자는 42,000대 중 24,000대가 노조와의 갈등을 비롯한 여러 이유로 일본 닛산 공장으로 넘어갔다고 밝혔다.
Renault Samsung union has staged more than 50 four-hour strikes since October last year to demand hikes in base pay in last year's wage agreement.
르노삼성 노조는 지난해 임금협상에서 기본급 인상을 요구하며, 작년 10월부터 50여 차례 주야 4시간씩 부분 파업에 돌입했다.
