At least five people, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed and 13 other injured in a wee-hour arson attack in an apartment complex in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, Wednesday.
수요일 경남 진주의 한 아파트 단지에서 야간에 발생한 방화사건으로 12세 소녀를 포함해 최소 5명이 숨지고 13명이 다쳤다.
A suspect, identified as his family name An, 42, set his apartment on fire at 4:29 a.m., ambushing his neighbors running out of their residences on their emergency stairs and brandishing a lethal tool against them.
피의자 안 씨(42)는 새벽 4시 29분 자신의 아파트에 불을 지른 뒤 비상계단에 매복해 내려오는 사람들에게 흉기를 휘둘렀다.
He shouted "fire" to flush out his neighbors, according to witness accounts.
목격자들의 진술에 따르면, 그는 이웃 주민들을 밖으로 나오게 하려고 "불이야!"를 외쳤다고 한다.
An, now in custody, told the police that he was angry because of back pay.
현재 유치장에 구금된 안 씨는 임금 체불 때문에 화가 났다고 경찰에 진술했다.
He is said to be a recipient of government support for the underprivileged. He was being questioned as to the exact cause of his alleged rampage.
