TEHRAN (AP) ― Iran's Revolutionary Guard said Thursday it shot down a U.S. drone amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington over its collapsing nuclear deal.
이란 혁명수비대는 목요일 이란과 미국간 핵협상을 둘러싸고 긴장이 고조되고 있는 가운데 미국의 무인기를 격추했다고 밝혔다.
The U.S. military declined to immediately comment.
이에 대해 미군은 즉각적인 언급을 회피했다.
The reported shootdown of the RQ-4 Global Hawk comes after the U.S. military previously alleged Iran fired a missile at another drone last week that responded to the attack on two oil tankers near the Gulf of Oman.
오만해 인근에서 일어난 두 대의 유조선 피격을 미군이 이란의 소행이라고 주장하자, 이에 대응해 이란이 지난주 무인기를 향해 미사일을 발사한 이후, 또 다시 이번 RQ-4 글로벌호크가 격추가 일어났다.
The U.S. blames Iran for the attack on the ships, which Tehran denies.
미국은 유조선 피격으로 이란을 비난하고 있지만, 이란은 이를 부인하고 있다.
The attacks come against the backdrop of heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran following President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers a year ago.
일련의 공격들은 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 세계 강대국들과 맺은 '이란 핵합의'에서 지난해 탈퇴하기로 한 데 이어 미국과 이란의 긴장이 고조된 배경 하에 나왔다.
The White House separately said it was aware of reports of a missile strike on Saudi Arabia amid a campaign targeting the kingdom by Yemen's Iranian-allied Houthi rebels.
백악관은 예멘의 이란계 후티 반군이 사우디아라비아에 미사일 공격을 했다는 보도에 대해 알고 있다고 밝혔다.
Iran recently has quadrupled its production of low-enriched uranium and threatened to boost its enrichment closer to weapons-grade levels, trying to pressure Europe for new terms to the 2015 deal.
이란은 최근 저농축 우라늄 생산량을 4배로 늘렸고, 2015년 체결한 이란핵협정의 새로운 조건을 위해 유럽을 압박하기 위해 무기급 수준으로 우라늄 비축을 늘리겠다고 위협했다.
