Samsung Electronics said Thursday that its sales of large dryers with a capacity of more than 14 kilograms during the first two weeks of July had increased by 45 percent compared to the same period of June.

"After monsoon season is forecasted to hit the country in July, Samsung's Grande dryers have seen an increase in sales," a Samsung official said.

The official said the sales increase stemmed mainly from the beginning of the heavy rain season.

Samsung also said that its Grande dryers have been well-received in Europe, witnessing a sales increase of more than 40 percent in the first half of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.

Samsung's aggressive moves can be interpreted as the company trying to capitalize on the country's growing dryer market.

Industry officials said an increasing number of consumers are purchasing dryers amid rising concerns of fine dust pollution because they can dry their laundry inside with the windows closed when fine dust pervades the air. Also the hot and humid summer weather here has made more people buy dryers.

According to data by market researcher Euromonitor International, LG is dominating the domestic dryer market with a market share of about 70 percent in 2018. LG is also ranked No.2 in the global dryer market with a share of 8.8 percent, following Whirlpool, while Samsung remained fourth with 6.5 percent.
