AhnLab, SK Infosec, Igloo Security and other cybersecurity service providers are capitalizing on growing demand for cloud security here as more companies adopt cloud computing to increase efficiency, company officials said Monday.

The companies offer managed security services for cloud computing systems, covering every aspect of security operations in a cloud environment ranging from installing security service and remotely monitoring for possible cyberattacks to deploying engineers when organizations are hit by cyberattacks.

Given an increasing number of companies in almost every industrial sector are moving to cloud computing, service providers expect there will be growing demand for specialized security in the sector.

According to data by market researcher IDC, the country's cloud market was estimated at 3.6 trillion won in 2018 and is expected to grow to 5.2 trillion won with an average growth rate of 13 percent.

AhnLab, the country's leading anti-virus software provider, opened up the managed security service market for cloud computing systems after launching related services in January 2016.

SK Infosec, a security service provider of SK Group, is also a leading company in the sector providing cybersecurity services for companies that adopted cloud computing systems. It said recently it has secured about 100 client companies.

The company officials added they expect local security providers to dominate the country's cloud security market as they can better provide customized security services to their clients.

"As the cybersecurity market for cloud computing is at its early stage, companies in the sector are trying to expand their customer base by providing specialized service. Given local companies can better communicate with their local client companies, the market is expected to be dominated by local service providers," an AhnLab official said.

AhnLab has provided cybersecurity services to companies adopting the cloud computing services of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft's Azure and IBM's Bluemix. It said it has been strengthening cloud cybersecurity services deploying some 100 employees in the sector, which is about one-10th of its workforce.

"We have seen an increase in sales of cybersecurity services for cloud computing systems. Companies in manufacturing, distribution and game industries are our main customers," the official said.

Igloo Security, a local cybersecurity service provider, also has been providing cloud security for companies using AWS cloud services since 2018.

"Companies using cloud computing services are required to take on specialized cybersecurity measures for their cloud system. We are currently providing our security services to customer companies that adopted AWS cloud services," an official of the company said, adding the company will expand its customer base by providing its security services to firms using other cloud platforms.

Not only cybersecurity service providers but also system integration arms of large conglomerates are moving into the cloud security market to diversify their business portfolios which have mainly concentrated on providing IT services to their group affiliates.

Samsung SDS, the system integration affiliate of Samsung Group, unveiled its strengthened cloud security service that detects, analyzes and defends against cyberattacks.

"Due to the complexity of management of cloud computing services, there has been growing demand for cybersecurity measures in the sector," a Samsung SDS official said. The official added its security service is designed not only for Samsung Group affiliates but also for various companies in different industries.

LG CNS, the IT service arm of LG Group, has also been operating an independent organization dedicated to cloud security.

"LG CNS has developed its own cybersecurity measure utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies. We have been providing cloud security services not only to LG Group affiliates but also to other companies," an LG CNS official said.
