LG CNS began its "IT Dream Project," Tuesday, to offer free coding education to middle school students.

The four-day program, which is part of the firm's social contribution activities, is taking place at Sejong University in Seoul.

Thirty students who are members of software-related clubs at their middle schools in Seoul participated in the annual event.

The LG Group's IT affiliate said the program is designed to nurture young, creative students who have a knack for problem-solving, for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Participants will be given opportunities to create self-driving cars and autonomous driving systems by utilizing robotic cars made out of LEGO and 3D printers.

Each student will be given a role ― such as team leader, software developer, 3D model designer and game designer, while carrying out the project, the company said, noting that this will give them a chance to experience how a project is carried out in an actual IT company.

The firm said this year's IT Dream Project introduces a new course that calls on middle school students who are educated during the program to create teaching materials on their own for elementary students.

On the last day of the program, the participants will visit four childcare centers in Seoul to offer IT education to 50 elementary students.

"We will continue to expand our free software education programs to offer benefits to more students," an LG CNS officials said.
