A South Korean freighter was attacked by pirates near the Singapore Strait on Monday, government officials in Busan said.
한국 국적 화물선이 싱가포르 해협 인근에서 해적들의 공격을 받았다고 월요일 해양수산부(해수부) 관계자는 밝혔다.
The pirates armed with guns and other weapons assaulted sailors of the South Korean-registered vessel, the 44,132-ton CK Bluebell, in the sea about 100 miles from the entrance of the strait at 4:25 a.m. before making off with $13,000 in cash, according to the officials at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
해수부 관계자에 따르면 총기와 기타 무기로 무장한 해적들은 오전 4시 25분 싱가포르 해협 입구에서 약 100마일 떨어진 해상에서 한국 국적 선박인 씨케이블루벨호(44,132t)의선원들을 공격한 뒤 현금 1만3천 달러를 빼앗아 도주했다.
No casualties were reported from the attack, they said, noting some sailors sustained minor injuries, such as bruises, during their confrontations with the pirates.
관계자는 일부 선원들이 해적들과 대치하는 동안 타박상 등 가벼운 부상을 입었다고 언급하며 이번 공격으로 인한 사상자는 없다고 밝혔다.
Besides the cash, some sailors lost their personal belongings, including mobile phones, clothes and shoes, to the attackers, they added.
현금 외에도 일부 선원들은 휴대전화, 옷, 신발 등 개인 소지품을 해적들에게 뺏겼다고 덧붙였다.
The CK Bluebell en route to Incheon after departing from Brazil resumed its normal navigation after the attack, they said.
브라질에서 출발해 인천으로 향하던 씨케이블루벨호는 해적의 공격을 받은 후 정상 항해를 재개했다.
"Ordinary freighters navigate at a speed below 15 knots. But a speed boat operated by the pirates approached the freighter at a speed above 20 knots. Afterward, seven weapons-wielding pirates got on board and assaulted the sailors for about 30 minutes," a ministry official said.
해수부 관계자는 "일반 화물선은 보통 15노트 미만으로 항해하는데, 해적들이 20노트 이상 속도를 내는 스피드보트를 타고 따라붙은 뒤 해적 7명이 배에 올라타 30분 동안 선원들을 폭행하고 금품을 빼앗아 달아났다"고 말했다.

이 관계자는 "해적의 공격 소식을 싱가포르해협 인근을 지나는 모든 한국 국적 선박에 전파하고 경계태세를 유지해 줄 것을 지시했다"고 전했다.
