Ghanaian TV personality Sam Okyere revealed Monday he recently passed an exam to gain permanent residency in Korea.

He was appearing as a panelist on KBS 2TV reality show "Hello Counselor."

"Now I am a Korean without a passport," he said. "I took the 'Understanding of Korean Society' class, which revolves around history, economy, society and all other subjects."

The test is known to be challenging. But it is one of the qualifications required to apply for permanent residence. Some take the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) instead.

When the program's host Lee Young-ja asked him whether he has changed like a Korean, he said: "I am more obsessed with age now. I even ask a foreigner how old he is. If he is older, I nod a greeting, but if he is not, I merely say 'Nice to meet you.'"

Okyere, whose full name is Samuel Nana Kwesi Okyere Jan Tuiniboa Coduia Dalco, was accepted into the Korean Government Scholarship Program in 2009 and entered Sogang University. He was a cast member in JTBC talk show "Non-Summit," and has appeared on several other programs including MBC's "Dunia: Into a New World" in 2018.
