Chuseok, the Korean equivalent of Thanksgiving, is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month on the lunar calendar, which falls on Sept. 13.

An array of events, including folk game festivals and concerts, will take place across Seoul during the extended holiday that begins Thursday, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

This year, Chuseok will be a four-day extended holiday over the weekend, running from Thursday to Sunday. City officials said several events will be held at venues across the capital, including parks, museums and palaces.

The Seoul Museum of History will hold a celebration where participants can take part in traditional musical jams and "ganggangsullae," a traditional dance in which participants hold hands in a circle.

The Doneuimun Museum Village will hold concerts and showcase traditional games during the four-day holiday, as well as screening Korean films daily at 5 p.m.

Holiday celebrations where participants can try out folk games and eat rice cake will be featured at Boramae Park, one of Seoul's largest parks, and Unhyeon Palace.

During the holiday, subways and some intra-city buses will operate extended services.

According to a special transport policy measure announced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, subway trains will run for an extra hour past their usual time of 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Buses on 129 routes passing through Seoul Station Bus Terminal, and connected to four other major train stations and four major bus terminals, will also offer an extended service until 2 a.m. over the two days.
