NCSOFT will begin a beta service of its new PC-mobile interconnected game platform, PURPLE, Nov. 27, which will enable users to play its long-awaited "Lineage 2M" both on mobile phones and PCs, the game company said Wednesday.

"Lineage 2M," the firm's new mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), will also be launched the same day.

Users can download both "Lineage 2M" and PURPLE in advance from Nov. 25, the company said during a media briefing held at its R&D center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

The firm said PURPLE is a "cross play" service aimed at offering new gaming experiences to users, allowing them to play the game anywhere and on any device.

"We have optimized the performance of PURPLE so as many people as possible can enjoy Lineage 2M," said Lee Han-joon who is in charge of game platform affairs at NCSOFT.

The company noted that its PURPLE platform provides 4K resolution, giving users a highly immersive visual environment.

The new platform also offers game systems optimized for keyboard and mouse in addition to multi-touch action to allow gamers to respond quickly to exigent combat situations.

Kim Hoon, who is in charge of PURPLE's development, said the platform will work as a community hub for users, offering an in-game, real-time voice chat feature as well as various push notifications.

Gamers will also be able to share their game-play screen with others and watch live streaming of others' gameplay without installing separate programs.

"We will offer a live streaming function so users can get more enjoyment from communicating with others," Kim said.

"Lineage 2M" is the first game available on the PURPLE platform, with the company planning to add other games to the platform.

"Our ultimate goal is to make all NCSOFT's games available for the PURPLE platform," Kim Hyun-ho, the head of the platform business unit, said, noting that the company is also considering adding an automatic translation feature for global users.

NCSOFT founder and CEO Kim Taek-jin earlier said the company has applied a variety of cutting-edge technologies to "Lineage 2M" to create a game that surpasses the limits of existing mobile games.
