Singer Wheesung will be investigated over allegations he bought and used an illegal drug, according to Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency, Thursday.

Police found in December there was a reasonable suspicion that the singer, 38, had purchased the drug.

They did not identify the drug, but some local reports say it was propofol ― a powerful anesthetic widely used for conscious sedation endoscopy and cosmetic surgery. Many celebrities have been probed and punished for its use without prescription.

In 2013, the singer was accused of using propofol from 2011 to 2013. Wheesung claimed he used it to treat a herniated disk and hair loss. The court later cleared him of the allegations.

"We will soon summon Wheesung for the probe," a police agency official was quoted as saying.

Wheesung has not yet made any official statement.

The singer debuted in 2002 with the album "Like A Movie" and has released numbers including "Can't We" (2002).
