A pair of Michael Jordan's game-worn sneakers sold for $615,000, Christies' auction house said Thursday, shattering a record set just months ago by the sale of another pair of the basketball legend's shoes. Jordan racked up 30 points while wearing the size 13.5 shoes, which are in his Chicago Bulls team's iconic red and black colors.
마이클 조던이 경기중 착용한 운동화 한 켤레가 61만5천달러에 낙찰됐다고 경매 회사 크리스티가 목요일 밝혔는데, 이는 불과 몇 달 전 팔린 그의 또 다른 신발이 세운 기록을 깼다. 조던은 소속팀 시카고 불스의 상징적인 빨간색과 검은색이 들어간 이 13.5 사이즈 신발을 신고 30득점을 올렸다.
The sneakers were a pair of Air Jordan 1 Highs that the NBA megastar wore during a 1985 exhibition match in Italy when he dunked the ball so hard it shattered the glass backboard.
이번 경매에 나온 운동화는 1985년 이탈리아에서 열린 친선전에서 NBA의 슈퍼스타인 조던이 덩크슛을 너무 세게 해서 백보드 유리를 산산조각냈을 때 신었던 ‘에어 조던1 하이' 한 켤레였다.
"This is the original shoe with an actual piece of the backboard, a piece of glass, in the sole of the shoe," said Caitlin Donovan, head of Christie's.
크리스티 경매 회사의 케이틀린 도너번 대표는 "이 신발은 밑창에 실제 백보드 조각(유리 조각)이 들어간 진품"이라고 말했다.
Though the sale broke the record set in May when a pair of Air Jordan 1's sold for $560,000, the new auction landed below the estimated range of 650,000 and $850,000.
이번 경매는 지난 5월 에어 조던 1 한 켤레가 56만 달러에 낙찰된 기록을 깼지만, 65만~85만 달러의 예상가격 밑으로 낙찰됐다.
