Government officials are agonizing over whether to extend tougher social distancing guidelines for Seoul and surrounding areas as the number of daily new COVID-19 cases remains in the triple digits, according to the officials Friday.

It is not an easy decision for the government because difficulties in economic conditions have been worsening especially for the self-employed, small business owners and other low-income groups.
특히 자영업자, 소상공인, 저소득층을 중심으로 경제여건의 어려움이 악화되고 있어 정부로서는 쉽지 않은 결정이다.
The government aimed to reduce daily new cases to below 100 when raising its social distancing restrictions to Level 2.5 in the Seoul metropolitan area, Aug. 30.
정부는 지난달 30일 수도권에서 사회적 거리두기를 2.5단계로 격상할 때 일일 신규 확진자를 100명 이하로 줄이는 것을 목표로 했다.
But the nation's daily count of new virus cases has been between 100 and 200 for more than a week after the figure hit its peak at 441 on Aug. 26.
그러나 우리나라의 일일 신규 확진자 수는 지난달 26일 441명으로 정점을 찍은 후 일주일 넘게 100명에서 200명 사이를 유지해왔다.
According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the country added 176 more COVID-19 cases, including 161 locally transmitted infections, for Thursday, raising the total caseload to 21,919.
질병관리본부에 따르면 국내발생 환자 161명을 포함한 총 176명의 신규 확진 환자를 추가돼 국내 총 누적 확진자 수는 21,919명으로 증가했다.
