Hanon Systems has received a new technology certificate from the industry ministry for its water-cooled condenser designed to manage the heating and cooling of electric vehicles.

According to the company, Friday, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy granted a New Excellent Technology (NET) certificate for the condenser technology during an online event held on Sept. 22.

The water-cooled condenser is paired with an integrated receiver drier and integrated into EVs' heat pump systems, effectively managing the heating and cooling of electric vehicles. It also supports maintaining an optimal temperature of vehicle's electrical and electronic parts such as motors, inverters and batteries.

The new condenser will feature in Hyundai Motor's IONIQ 5 EV, which is anticipated to roll out in the first half of next year.

Compared to air-cooled condensers, the heat dissipation of the new water-cooled condenser shows more than 20 percent improvement in performance, and reduces the vehicle's weight by having fewer components.

The technology also supports 800-volt rapid charging, which will be a crucial component for next generation EVs, the company said.

"Hanon Systems is well-positioned with a broad range of innovative thermal management solutions for the eco-friendly vehicle market," said Steven Clarke, chief technology officer of Hanon Systems.

"This recognition is another testament to the talent of our technical team in developing solutions that will play an important role in helping automakers commercialize electric vehicles in the growing eco-friendly segment."

Including the new condenser, Hanon Systems has been awarded 16 products with NET certificates.

Along with Japan's Denso and Germany's MAHLE, Hanon Systems is one of the world's leading suppliers of thermal and energy management components for automobiles.
