World Taekwondo (WT) on Monday sealed a deal to move its headquarters from central Seoul to Goyang, a city just north of the capital, and refurbish its facilities.

WT President Choue Chung-won signed a memorandum of understanding formalizing the deal with Goyang Mayor Lee Jae-joon.

Goyang will erect a 10-floor building to be completed by 2025 for WT. The "state-of-the-art" structure, a 40-minute drive from Incheon International Airport, will have office space, a taekwondo museum and a training ground.

"We are grateful to Mayor Lee whose affection for taekwondo played a big role in this move," Choue said.

"Our new headquarters will significantly increase our operational capacity and allow us to better serve our global taekwondo family. Moreover, it will provide an accessible and convenient location for us to host guests, training camps and more."

Lee also thanked Choue and WT for choosing the city for the relocation.

Goyang will host the 2022 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in April.
