CJ ENM's cable network tvN will launch the new channel tvN STORY to target middle-aged viewers, on May 1.

The network, which has mainly targeted younger viewers in their 20s to 30s, intends to reach wider generations through varied content, covering issues from economics and culture, to society.

"The channel aims to meet the needs of older generations who are now media-friendly and are constantly seeking new values in different fields," the network said.

"TvN STORY is intended to sympathize with the stories of older-generation viewers who have shaped Korea into what it is now," Kim Jae-hyun, director of CJ ENM's entertainment division, said in the statement.

The new channel's programming will include original shows, including a reality show starring former teen stars from the 1990s, like Cha In-pyo and Son Ji-chang, and other shows that will provide information on health, lifestyle and finance.

It will also air the movie of famous trot singer Kim Ho-joong's fan meeting for the first time on TV. The singer has a huge fan base among middle-aged adults after he won the trot competition show of another cable network.

In time for the channel's launch, the network will start what it dubs the "StoryING Campaign" to introduce different trends and communities among its targeted generations.
