Samsung Electronics is pushing to share its gains with societies worldwide as it continues to participate in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities around the globe, it said Thursday.

The world's leading electronics company said it held a charity marathon in the Paraguayan capital city of Asuncion this month. The "Samsung Running Festival" started in 2003 and has taken place every year as the largest marathon race in the country.

"Over 6,800 Paraguayan people participated in the festival this year," the company said on its website. "The Samsung Running Festival is a meaningful marathon as all money made is been donated to a local charity foundation every year."

Samsung Electronics is cooperating with a Paraguayan non-government organization called the Denide Foundation. Established in 1966, the organization aims to provide education programs for intellectually handicapped people in the country.

Samsung Electronics has also pushed to eradicate illiteracy in Indonesia.

The company said its Indonesian subsidiary has received an award for "Excellence for the Provision of Education and Literacy" during the 2017 Global CSR Summit and Awards, March 31, because of its contribution to the country's education.

Samsung Electronics Indonesia has worked with communities and vocational schools to help young people learn skills such as how to repair mobile phones, air conditioners, televisions, washers and refrigerators.

To do this, the company has run seven Samsung Tech Institutes in Indonesia since 2011. The institutes have graduated over 2,500 vocational trainees. They also offered job opportunities to some of its graduates to work at the company's service centers and factory in Cikarang.

"The program's main goal is to support young people who dropped out of school and foster vocational capabilities of trainees at institutes," Samsung Electronics Indonesia Vice President Lee Kang-hyun said.

The vice president pledged to continue to promote vocational education in the country.

"At Samsung Electronics, we seek not just business achievements but also to contribute toward local societies and people's lives," Lee said. "We will tap into our technologies, services know-how and expertise to support the education of young people here and provide them with vocational training to help them get jobs."
