Yoo Young-chul Included in World's 31 Serial Killers

By Kim Rahn
Staff Reporter

Korean serial killer Yoo Young-chul, who murdered 21 people, was included in a list of the world's 31 most prolific serial killers by a weekly magazine.

Life, the U.S.-based magazine, recently released photos of 31 murderers, and Yoo was the only Asian.

The magazine noted that Yoo killed 21 people from 2003 to 2004 including an elderly couple he murdered with a hammer. ''He said he was motivated by his hatred of women and the wealthy, and admitted to eating some of his victims' livers. He was the first person South Korea sentenced to death since 1997,'' it reported.

The 2008 hit film ''The Chaser'' was based on the killer.

Others selected by Life include: Richard Ramirez, the so-called ''night stalker,'' who was convicted of 13 murders, five attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries; Jeffrey Dahmer, or the ''Cannibal of Milwaukee,'' who killed 17 men and boys and whose killing spree included necrophilia, cannibalism and a plot to create zombies; and Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who was put to death by lethal injection in 2002 for murdering seven men, and who was played by Charlize Theron in the movie ''Monster'' the next year, winning an Oscar.
