Filming for the sequel of 2015 megahit film "Veteran" will start this month, with several major cast members of the original film returning, according to the distributor, CJ ENM, Friday.

Under the helm of director Ryoo Seung-wan, who also led the original film, actors Hwang Jung-min, Jang Yoon-ju, Oh Dae-hwan, Kim Si-hoo and Oh Dal-soo will come back for the cop action flick.

Hwang, who has since appeared in films including "The Wailing" (2016), "The Spy Gone North" (2018) and "Deliver Us from Evil" (2020), as well as Netflix series "Narco-Saints" (2022), will again play Seo Do-cheol, who is a tough and principled police detective.

Seo will lead a violent crime investigation team, with the aforementioned actors being his team members. Jung Hae-in, who has performed in a wide spectrum of acting roles in films including "Tune in for Love" (2019) and "Start-Up" (2019), along with series like "Something in the Rain" (2018), "D.P." (2021) and "Snowdrop" (2021-22), will join as the team's youngest member.

"We plan to show a stronger suspense and upgraded dynamics from the original. I'm glad that all the staff and actors, whom I trust, have gathered again," director Ryoo said in a press release.

The original film, where the investigation team fought for social justice against the rebellious heir of a powerful conglomerate, played by Yoo Ah-in, drew 13.41 million filmgoers at the time of its screening in 2015.

The filming is scheduled to finish in the first half of next year, though the release date hasn't been decided yet.
