President Moon Jae-in's approval rating declined for the seventh straight week last week, a poll showed Monday, mainly due to signs of a slowing economy and stalled denuclearization talks between the United States and North Korea.
The rating came to 53.7 percent last week, down 1.7 percentage points from the previous week, in a weekly poll conducted by Realmeter on 2,507 adults across the country.
Moon's support has kept falling since hitting 65.3 percent in late September following his third summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang from Sept. 18-20.
"The decline appeared to result from sluggish economic data, public unease amid conservative opposition parties' attacks on the government's economic policy and stalled U.S.-North Korea denuclearization talks," the pollster said.
The survey showed that the public support rating for the ruling Democratic Party (DP) edged down 0.2 percentage-point on-week to 40.5 percent, also marking the seventh consecutive weekly decline.
But the number for the main opposition Liberty Korea Party rose for the third straight week to 21.7 percent.
The poll, commissioned by local broadcaster CBS, had a margin of error of 2 percentage points, with a 95 percent confidence level. (Yonhap)
