K-pop boy band EXO, as one unit, has been away from the public for months as a result of the conscription of two members (Xiumin and D.O.) and Chinese member Lay Zhang's focus on China.

Their fans might have been curious about how the six remaining ― Baekhyun, Kai, Chanyeol, Sehun, Chen, Suho ― spend the low-key period. According to industry insiders, they have used the time productively and the fruits will soon come into sight.

Lead vocalist Chen plans to release his second solo album "Dear my dear" on Oct 1, which insiders say will display his "musical maturity."

Kai and Baekhyun will play in a project band "SuperM," comprised of members from existing K-pop bands under SM Entertainment's control. The band's first album is due on Oct 4.

Leader Suho is moving to the big screen, where he will star in a short film "Gift" with actors Shin Ha-kyun and Kim Seul-gi.

Xiumin, now in uniform, also has not stopped working. He is set to star in the army musical "Return: The Promise of the Day" from Oct 22 to Dec 1. The play is about people exhuming the remains of the war dead.

EXO debuted in 2012 with "MAMA" and shot to fame with the big hit "Growl" in 2013.
