Multicultural background makes Oteri understand other people, culture

Oteri Sarang
Oteri Sarang, 11, a fifth grader at Seoul Misung Elementary School in Seoul, strives to develop herself by participating in various activities at school along with her friends.

Born to an Italian father and Korean mother, she speaks Italian, German and Korean. Her multi-ethnic background has helped her expand her understanding of other people and culture.

She is a very sociable person who is much beloved by her classmates, and she reaches out to those who have a hard time making friends.

Once a week, Oteri comes to school early to help the staff prepare school events.

Oteri also shows prominent academic performance in English and mathematics, winning a bronze medal and gold medal in competitions of each subject at her school. Talented in music, she also won the top award for piano in a national concours.

Hahn's linguistic talent shines amid her love for Korea

Hahn Hae-lim
Born to a Korean father and Chinese mother, Hahn Hae-lim naturally learned to speak fluent Korean and Chinese.

The 11-year-old student of Baeksin Elementary School in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, has been participating in foreign language speaking competitions since 2017, including those hosted by the provincial and central governments, and won multiple awards.

Hahn also loves reading so much that she was picked as "reading king" at her school for four straight years since 2015.

She is also an exceptional student in science and currently participates in education programs for "gifted children" under the regional education office.

Lee shines in leadership, volunteer activities

Lee Kwang-an
Lee Kwang-an, 16, a senior at Hae Mill School in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, is student president at his school, and works hard and volunteers for those in need.

Lee particularly shows good leadership in group activities where he creates a lively atmosphere for everyone to participate and have fun together.

A naturalized Korean from Vietnam, he joined a community service program hosted by the Korea Vietnam Culture Communication Center during the summer vacation. Lee visited Vietnam for eight days through the program to paint murals and teach elementary schoolchildren there.

With talent in computer coding, his dream is to become a car engineer in the future.

Kang is persistent and passionate musical actor

Kang Yun-ho
Kang Yun-ho, 15, a senior at Suseong Middle School in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, is a musical actor hopeful. He has been traveling to Daejeon every weekend since he was a second grader seven years ago to learn tap dance and participate in musical programs. Sixty children started attending the program back then, but Kang is the only one still there.
He swept various tap dance competitions, winning the teenage category of Korea Tap Dance Challenge in 2017 and another competition held for the same event in 2018 in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

He still practices hard over the weekend to try out for upcoming competitions.

As he speaks Chinese thanks to his Chinese mother, Kang worked as a Chinese-Korean interpreter. He also participates in activities to protect and monitor Korean cultural properties in the region.

Kim is thoughtful and considerate class president

Kim Eun-soo
Kim Eun-soo, 18, a senior student at Seoul Aero Business High School in Seoul, is a class president who always cares for his friends and tries to bring out a bright atmosphere in the classroom.

During class meetings, he respects others' opinions and guides them to a consensus for a common goal through debates and compromises.

Kim is born to a Korean father and a Filipina mother. He cares about friends' feeling when they are having troubles and hardships, and voluntarily helps classmates who fall behind in studies.

During cleaning time, he is also the last person to leave and finish the work.
