President Moon Jae-in will work more closely with the next National Assembly for a more effective management of state affairs in the post-COVID-19 period, according to the presidential office, Thursday.
목요일 청와대에 따르면, 문재인 대통령이 포스트 코로나 시대에 보다 효과적으로 국정 운영을 위해 차기 국회와 더욱 긴밀히 협력할 예정이다.
Moon had a long lunch meeting with the floor leaders of the two major parties ― the ruling Democratic Party of Korea's (DPK) Rep. Kim Tae-nyeon and his counterpart of the main opposition United Future Party (UFP), Rep. Joo Ho-young ― and discussed urgent issues including a third supplementary budget, which Cheong Wa Dae and the ruling party have seen as crucial for economic recovery and job creation.
문 대통령은 이날 양대 정당 원내대표인 더불어민주당 김태년·미래통합당 주호영 원내대표와 장시간 오찬을 함께하며 현 정부와 여당이 경제회복과 일자리 창출에 꼭 필요하다고 보는 3차 추경 등의 시급한 현안을 논의했다.
The meeting took place two days ahead of the inauguration of the 21st Assembly, elected through the April 15 general election.
이번 회동은 415총선을 통해 선출된 21대 국회 출범을 이틀 앞두고 열렸다.
Moon underlined the importance of cooperative politics ahead of the opening of the new Assembly, May 30.
문 대통령은 이달 30일 새 국회 개원을 앞두고 협치의 중요성을 강조했다.
"The President expressed high hopes for dialogue with the two floor leaders," presidential spokesman Kang Min-seok said in a briefing.
"문 대통령은 두 원내대표와의 대화에 큰 기대를 표했다"고 강민석 청와대 대변인이 브리핑을 통해 전했다.
The President highlighted frequent meetings as an easy way for cooperative politics.
문 대통령은 자주 만나는 것이 협치를 위한 쉬운 방법이라고 강조했다.
Moon said, "The first step for cooperative politics for the President and the ruling and opposition parties will be to get together often, without any formalities".
문 대통령은 "협치의 쉬운 길은 대통령과 여야가 자주 만나는 것"이라며 "아무런 격식 없이 만나는 게 좋은 첫 단추"라고 말했다.
"In the past such meetings took place when there was an issue that needed to be resolved. But in the future, we should meet regularly, even when there aren't any urgent issues, and discuss state affairs," Moon was quoted as saying by Kang.
"과거에는 뭔가 일이 안 풀릴 때 문제를 타개하기 위해 만나려다보니 만나는 일 자체가 쉽지 않았다"고 강 대변인은 문 대통령의 말을 인용해 전했다.
