President Moon Jae-in expressed optimism Saturday that South Korea will attain its goal of getting 13 million people inoculated against COVID-19 by the end of June.
문재인 대통령은 토요일 한국이 6월 말까지 1300만 명의 사람들에게 코로나19 백신을 접종한다는 목표를 달성할 것이라고 낙관했다.
"Vaccinations are gaining speed," he wrote on Facebook. Just over the past two days, 1.2 million people received vaccine shots, raising the total to 5.23 million as of Friday, or 10.2 percent of the nation's population, he noted.
문 대통령은 "백신 접종에 속도가 붙고 있습니다"고 페이스북에 썼다. 지난 이틀 동안 120만 명이 백신 주사를 맞았고 금요일 현재 총 523만 명으로 전체 인구의 10.2%에 달한다고 그는 언급했다.
If the current pace is maintained, there will be no problem in achieving the aim of getting 13 million people vaccinated within the first half of the year, he added.
"이 속도라면 6월 까지 1,300만명 이상의 접종 목표 달성이 무난할 것입니다"라고 그는 덧붙였다.
Moon pointed out that South Korea is taking advantage of its advanced information technology (IT) sector, especially the use of a real-time search, notification and reservation system for residual doses of vaccines from no-shows.
문 대통령은 한국이 첨단 정보기술(IT) 분야 중 특히 노쇼 잔여백신 수량의 실시간 검색·알림·예약 시스템을 활용하고 있다고 말했다.
"It helps further increase the vaccination rate and prevent even a little of the precious vaccines from being thrown away," he said.
이어 "'잔여 백신 예약서비스'는 접종률을 높이고 아까운 백신이 조금이라도 버려지는 일을 막을 막는 데 큰 도움이 될 것"이라고 그는 말했다.
The shipment of coronavirus vaccines is proceeding as scheduled and consultations are under way as well for the introduction of additional ones, according to the President.
문 대통령에 따르면 코로나바이러스 백신 출하가 예정대로 진행되고 있으며 추가 도입을 위한 협의도 진행 중에 있다.
Thus, he said, the nation will be able to reach herd immunity "at an early date."
따라서, 한국이 "빠른 시일 내에 집단 면역에 도달할 수 있을 것"이라고 그는 설명했다.
He requested that the public actively take vaccine shots, while abiding strictly to social distancing and other antivirus measures. (Yonhap)
