SM Entertainment, which houses K-pop superstars including TVXQ and EXO, has unveiled the first member of its new girl group aespa.

On Tuesday it disclosed on its Twitter several photos of Winter, 19, who has immediately generated buzz among K-pop followers.

"Winter has great singing and dancing prowess," the company said in a statement Tuesday. "She is expected to showcase various things after debut."

SM announced earlier that it would launch aespa next month, but did not reveal the exact date. The agency only unveiled a logo and a short teaser video on the band's social media accounts.

"The group's name is a combination of 'Avatar X Experience' and 'aspect,'" it said. "Its universe centers on the members' alter egos ― Avatars ― through which they experience a new world."

Other details ― such as the number of members ― are being kept under wraps.

aespa is SM's first K-pop group since 2016, the year the agency launched NCT. It is also its first girl group since Red Velvet, which made its debut in 2014.
