K-pop boy band SHINee's rapper Minho has returned to civilian life.

Minho, 28, had a celebration with his fans Sunday after completing his 19-month obligatory military service in the Marine Corps.

"Thank you for coming here to wait for me," he said during the ceremony near the base in the southeastern coastal city of Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province. "I just fulfilled my duty as a soldier. From now on, I will take my responsibility as a young man of Korea."

The SM Entertainment star started his service last April. He was originally scheduled to be relieved on Oct. 27, but the date was delayed after he gave up his 20-day final leave to pass his responsibilities on to his successor smoothly.

The Marine Corps praised his decision, saying he had been an exemplary soldier admired by many.

Minho debuted as a member of SHINee, which released its first album "Replay" in 2008. The group has since had many hits, including "Ring Ding Dong" (2009) and "Lucifer" (2010). Minho has also built his acting career, appearing in "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" (2016) and other TV dramas. He is scheduled to meet his fans on Naver's V live on Monday.
