The Golden Globe-winning drama film "Minari" has reigned atop the local box office chart for 18-consecutive days as of Saturday, drawing more than 650,000 moviegoers in total.
미국 골든글로브 수상작 '미나리'가 토요일 기준 국내 박스오피스 순위에서 18일 연속 1위를 차지하며 누적관객수 65만명을 돌파했다.
According to the Korean Film Council, "Minari" sold about 60,000 tickets on Saturday, outperforming the Japanese animated movie, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie ― Mugen Train" (38,856), and Disney's newest release, "Raya and the Last Dragon" (21,779). The thriller, "The Mauritanian" (10,139), and the animated film, "Soul" (6,900), ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
영화진흥위원회에 따르면, '미나리'는 토요일 약 6만명을 동원하며 일본 애니메이션 영화 '극장판 귀멸의 칼날: 무한열차편(3만8856명)'과 디즈니의 최신 개봉작 '라야와 마지막 드래곤(2만1779명)'을 앞질렀다. 스릴러 영화 ‘모리타니안(10,139명)'과 애니메이션 영화 ‘소울(6,900명)'이 각각 4위와 5위를 차지했다.
Since its opening here on March 3, "Minari" has accumulated about 5.9 billion won ($5.2 million) in gross sales.
'미나리'는 이달 3일 한국 개봉 이후 총매출액 약 59억 원을 기록했다.
"Minari," a semi-autobiographical movie by Korean-American director Lee Issac Chung, revolves around a Korean immigrant family who sets up a farm in rural Arkansas in the 1980s to pursue the American dream. Earlier in March, it won a Golden Globe for the best foreign-language film, which was given to auteur Bong Joon-ho's black-comedy "Parasite" in 2020.
재미교포 정이삭 감독의 반자전적 영화 '미나리'는 1980년대 아메리칸 드림을 꿈꾸며 아칸소주 시골에 농장을 차린 한인 이민자 가정을 그린 작품이다. 3월 초, 2020년 봉준호 감독의 블랙코미디 영화 '기생충'에 주어졌던 ‘외국어영화상'을 수상했다.
The film also earned Oscar nominations in six categories ― best picture, best directing, best original screenplay, best actor, best score and best supporting actress. Actress Youn Yuh-jung ― who played the grandmother of the immigrant family ― became the first Korean to be nominated for an acting category at the awards. Korean American actor Steven Yeun, who played the father, became the first Asian American nominee in the lead actor category.
이 영화는 또한 작품상, 감독상, 각본상, 남우주연상, 여우조연상, 음악상까지 6개 부문에서 오스카상 후보에 올랐다. 이민자 가정의 할머니 역을 맡은 배우 윤여정이 아카데미 시상식에서 연기 부문 후보에 오른 최초의 한국인이 되었다. 아버지를 연기한 한국계 미국인 배우 스티븐 연이 주연 배우 부문에서 첫 아시아계 미국인 후보에 올랐다.
Meanwhile, theaters in Korea are experiencing a dramatic decline in patrons due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. In February, the total number of theatergoers stood at 3.1 million, down 57.8 percent from the same period last year. But it is up 74 percent from January.
한편, 한국의 극장가는 코로나19 감염병의 장기화로 인해 관객의 급격한 감소를 겪고 있다. 2월 극장 관객 수는 310만 명으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 57.8% 감소했다. 그러나 이는 1월보다 74% 증가한 수치다.
