Brave Girls, a girl group that rose to surprise stardom at the brink of disbandment, said it wishes to become the new summer queen of the K-pop scene with its latest release.
해체 직전 깜짝 스타덤에 오른 걸그룹 브레이브걸스가 최근 컴백과 함께 가요계의 새로운 여름 여왕이 되고 싶다는 포부를 밝혔다.
"We would like to become a group people think of when summer comes," the group said during a news conference held Thursday marking the release of its fifth EP, titled "Summer Queen."
브레이브걸스는 목요일 5번째 EP 앨범 ‘서머퀸' 발표 기자회견에서 "여름이 오면 생각나는 그룹이 되고 싶다"라고 말했다.
The five-track album, including Korean and English language versions of the main track "Chi Mat Ba Ram," is full of tropical sounds and upbeat rhythms.
타이틀곡 ‘치맛바람'의 한국어와 영어 버전을 포함한 총 5곡이 수록된 이번 앨범은 트로피컬사운드와 흥겨운 리듬으로 가득하다.
"Chi Mat Ba Ram" — a compound of the words "chima," which means skirt in Korean, and "baram," which means swish or wind — tends to be used negatively, referring to fierceness in women, especially moms taking care of their children.
치마와 바람의 합성어인 치맛바람은 여성, 특히 아이를 돌보는 엄마들의 치열함을 지칭하며 부정적으로 쓰이는 경향이 있다.
"We were confused at first when we heard about the title of the main track but understood our chief producer's intention when he said he chose the word in hopes Brave Girls would take the K-pop scene by storm," the group's main vocalist Minyoung said.
그룹 메인보컬 민영은 "타이틀곡 제목을 처음 들었을 때 의아했지만 브레이브 걸스가 가요계를 강타하기를 바라는 마음에서 이 제목을 선택했다고 들었을 때 프로듀서의 의도를 이해했다"고 말했다.
The summer tropical number was written by Brave Brothers, one of the most successful K-pop producers and the chief of Brave Entertainment, which represents the four-piece act.
여름 트로피컬 사운드의 이 곡은 성공적인 가요 프로듀서 중 하나인 브레이브 엔터테인먼트 대표인 용감한형제가 작곡했다. 브레이브엔터테인먼트는 이 4인조 걸그룹의 소속사다.
Until early this year, the band's four members — Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji and Yuna — were considering parting ways after their past releases failed to grab the public's attention in the highly competitive industry where many acts come and go quickly.
