Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) of London will hold its first exhibition focusing on Korean popular culture, known as hallyu or the Korean wave, from Sept. 24, 2022, to June 2023, according to a July 7 press release. The V&A is the world's leading museum of art, design and performance.
7월 7일 보도자료에 따르면, 런던의 빅토리아앤드앨버트 박물관(V&A)은 2022년 9월 24일부터 2023년 6월까지 한류 또는 코리안 웨이브로 알려진 한국 대중문화를 중심으로 첫 전시회를 개최한다. V&A 박물관은 예술, 디자인, 퍼포먼스를 아우르는 세계 최고의 박물관이다.
The exhibit, titled "Hallyu! The Korean Wave," will exhibit the rise of South Korea's popular culture since the 1990s and its dynamic and worldwide popularity today in the cultural industries of cinema, drama, music, fandom, beauty and fashion.
"한류! 코리안 웨이브" 전시에서는 1990년대 이후 이름을 알리게 되는 한국 대중 문화부터 시작해 영화, 드라마, 음악, 팬덤, 미용, 패션 등 문화 산업에서의 역동적인 모습, 세계적인 인기를 얻는 현재의 모습까지 보여줄 예정이다.
Hallyu as a phenomenon gained global attention gradually. The global sensation of Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video heralded the advent of superstar boy band BTS. Korean film, "The Parasite," stunned global movie fans by grabbing four Oscars last year.
한류는 점차 세계적인 관심을 끌었다. 싸이의 "강남스타일" 뮤직비디오의 세계적인 센세이션은 슈퍼스타 보이밴드 방탄소년단의 등장을 예고했다. 한국 영화 "기생충"은 작년 4개의 오스카상을 수상함으로써 전세계 영화팬들을 놀라게 했다.
The V&A, among its permanent collection of 2.3 million design and decoration objects, has displayed a selection of Korean embroidery, lacquerware, ceramics and silverware since 1992 in a hall dedicated to Korean culture.
230만 점의 디자인과 장식품을 영구 소장하고 있는 V&A 박물관은 1992년부터 한국 문화 전시실에 한국의 자수, 칠기, 도자기, 은기 등을 전시해 왔다.
However, there have been growing calls for the continuity and expansion of such galleries to promote Korean culture worldwide. In response, South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been sponsoring Korean galleries overseas during the last five years with a budget of $1.7 million. The upcoming hallyu exhibit at the V&A is part of the ministry's project.
하지만, 전세계적으로 한국 문화를 알리기 위해 본 전시실의 확장을 요구하는 목소리가 계속해서 커지고 있다. 이에 문화체육관광부는 5년간 한국문화 전시실에 170만 달러의 예산을 지원해왔다. 다가올 V&A 박물관에서의 한류 전시회도 문화체육관광부 프로젝트의 일환이다.
The V&A offers free entrance to those who book visits online and follows the latest government guidelines on social distancing.
온라인 방문 예약자는 무료 입장이 가능하며 사회적 거리두기에 관한 정부의 지침을 따를 예정이다.
