Korean Air Lines, South Korea's biggest carrier by sales, said Thursday it plans to resume flights to Hawaii in November, in line with South Korea's aim to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19.
국내 최대 항공사인 대한항공은 한국의 집단 면역 달성 목표에 따라 하와이 노선 운항을 오는 11월 재개할 계획이라고 목요일 밝혔다.
Korean Air plans to operate three flights a week on the route from Incheon to Hawaii starting in November and expand the number of flights to five in December depending on the pandemic conditions, a company spokeswoman said over the phone.
대한항공은 11월부터 인천~하와이 노선을 주 3회 운항하고 코로나19 확산 상황에 따라 12월에는 주 5회로 운항을 확대할 계획이라고 회사 측 대변인은 밝혔다.
The national flag carrier made the decision as it expects outbound travel demand to improve late this year.
대한항공은 연말 해외여행 수요가 늘어날 것으로 예상해 운항 재개 결정을 내렸다.
Inbound passengers are exempt from a mandatory 10-day quarantine in Hawaii if they submit documents that prove they tested negative for COVID-19.
입국자는 코로나19 음성 판정 확인서를 제출하면 하와이에서 10일간의 의무 격리 조치에서 면제된다.
Smaller rival Asiana Airlines Inc. said it does not have a plan to resume flights to the U.S. state.

Jeju Air, the country's biggest low-cost carrier, resumed flights to the U.S. Pacific island of Saipan on June 8 in a preemptive measure to absorb post-coronavirus travel demand. Asiana and T'way Air took off for Saipan starting July 24 and July 29, respectively.
국내 최대 저가항공사인 제주항공은 지난 6월 8일 미국 태평양 섬 사이판으로 가는 항공편을 재개해 코로나바이러스 이후 여행 수요를 흡수했다. 아시아나항공은 7월 24일부터, 티웨이항공은 29일부터 사이판 노선을 운항했다.
