The Korea Times President-Publisher Oh Young-jin received a commemorative medal from the Uzbekistan government, Tuesday, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the country's independence.

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Korea hosted a ceremony awarding the medal to overseas partners who have made a significant contribution to the comprehensive development of the nation.

"It should be noted that this award is the result of Oh Young-jin's active contribution to raising awareness of the South Korean public about the essence of the reforms being carried out in our country. After becoming the head of The Korea Times, he actively collaborated with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Korea," the embassy said in a statement.

"He regularly provides practical assistance in the publication of dozens of articles and analytical materials on the ongoing reforms in all areas of our country. In addition, Oh Young-jin pays serious attention to the issue of cooperation with the media of Uzbekistan."

The Korea Times signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the International Press Club in Uzbekistan in June to boost further cooperation with the Central Asian country. According to the MOU, the two parties plan to exchange information and experience as well as offer internships to outstanding Uzbek students at the office of The Korea Times.

Oh was one of 27 foreign partners who received the medal for their contribution to promoting Uzbekistan in international society along with 45 Uzbeks living abroad and 180 employees of the country's foreign affairs ministry and diplomatic missions.
