Actor Ji Jin-hee shared his emotions following the end of his latest TV series, "The Road: Tragedy of One," expressing gratitude to viewers and staff, despite the program's rather disappointing ratings.

The suspense thriller began airing Aug. 4 with a 3.4 percent viewership rating that picked up to 4 percent by the second episode. But the ratings soon fell as the series went on, bottoming out at 1.7 percent. The last episode aired Thursday with a 2.9 percent rating.

"I was relieved to successfully finish filming as I left the set after the last scene. But at the same time it felt bittersweet to think that the series will finish its run," he said through the network, Wednesday. "I would like to applaud our director and production staff for helping me breathe life into my character, Baek Soo-hyun, and for their hard work."

Also thanking his co-stars, he said: "I appreciate how they did their best with their characters and enthusiastically worked together to find ways to make the scenes better."

Based on the Japanese crime novel of the same title by Rintaro Norizuki, the mystery followed an influential journalist, Baek Soo-hyun (Ji), who runs a primetime news program and is married to an heiress and miniature artist, Seo Eun-soo (Yoon Se-ah).

Soo-hyun had an affair with his colleague, Cha Seo-young (Kim Hye-eun), a long time ago, which ended with a big secret ― their son. One day, their son is found dead after a charity event.

Soo-hyun tries to uncover the truth behind the murder, tracing what happened that night, while trying to keep his secret. The series is directed by newcomer Kim Noh-won.

Yoon, who played the complex character Eun-soo, also thanked the production team.

"I am finally letting go of Eun-soo, who would always be in tears and in an emotional state. I want to hug each and every staff and cast member for comforting me when I got tired," she said. "You have all worked very hard and I want to thank you."

Actress Kim, who played the antagonist, Cha Seo-young, shared her thoughts about the series. Seo-young is an ambitious news presenter who is driven to climb the social ladder, despite having a successful job and a wealthy lifestyle with her CEO husband, Choi Nam-gyu (Ahn Nae-sang)

"The characters drive a child to death and get caught up with hiding their own secrets. I think the series showed how selfish people can be when they value social status more than a person's life," she said.
