Local governments are ramping up efforts to encourage foreign residents to receive vaccinations against COVID-19 as the number of new infections among foreign nationals is steadily increasing. 국내 체류 외국인들 사이에 신규 감염자 수가 계속 증가함에 따라 정부는 이들의 코로나19 백신 예방 접종을 독려하기 위해 힘쓰고 있다.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), Tuesday, 15.2 percent of newly confirmed patients between Aug. 29 and Sept. 4 were foreign nationals.
화요일 질병관리청에 따르면 8월 29일부터 9월 4일까지 확진자 가운데 15.2퍼센트는 국내 체류 외국인들이었다.
In particular, more than half of confirmed cases were non-Koreans in some cities and counties which have a large number of migrant workers due to the large presence of factories and farms there — 55 percent in Hwaseong and 50.5 percent in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, and 67.6 percent in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, over the same period.
특히 공장이나 농촌이 많은 시군구에서 외국인 확진자가 많이 나왔는데, 이 기간 외국인 확진자는 경기 화성에서 55퍼센트, 안산에서 50.5퍼센트, 충남 논산에서 67.6퍼센트가 발생했다.
For Seoul, 6.3 percent of new patients were foreigners in July, but the figure jumped to 9.2 percent in August.
서울의 경우 7월 신규 확진자의 6.3퍼센트가 외국인이었으나 8월에는 이 수치가 9.2퍼센트로 증가했다.
The health authorities believe rising infections among foreign residents could be attributed to the low inoculation rate resulting from a lack of information on vaccination reservations being made available to them as well as difficulty in taking vaccine leave from their workplaces such as small factories that require intensive work by employees.
보건당국은 국내 체류 외국인들 사이에서 확진자 수가 증가하는 것이 백신 예약 정보의 부재뿐 아니라 근로자들의 강도 높은 노동을 필요로 하는 소규모 공장과 같은 작업장 등에서는 백신 휴가를 내지 못한다는 점을 낮은 접종의 원인으로 보고 있다.
For illegal migrant workers, there may be a reluctance to seek vaccination out of fear of being identified and deported, although the immigration and health authorities have repeatedly said they would not do so.
출입국관리국과 보건당국이 재차 그렇게 하지 않을 것이라 했지만 불법 이주 노동자의 경우에는 신원이 밝혀져 추방될 우려 때문에 예방 접종을 꺼릴 가능성도 있다.
The health authorities and local governments have commenced campaigns to encourage foreign residents to get vaccinated, focusing on regions where a large number of infections among foreign nationals have been reported.
보건당국과 지방 정부는 갈수록 많은 외국인 확진자 수가 보고됨에 따라 외국인 거주자들의 백신 접종을 독려하는 캠페인을 시작했다.
